Bicycle Mechanics - How to unscrew a rusty pedal?

Hey.

I'm like stripping and repainting my beater, and my pedals are like one piece, so I need to take off one pedal to get the bb empty.

The problem is, its rusty as hell. The pedal won't come out :mad:. I've tried turpentine, WD40, and smashing it with a hammer, but still nothing. I don't really want to use a heat gun because it will probably melt the pedal (one of those cheap plastic platform pedals), and nothing else has worked so far.

Any suggestions?

leverage. get a big pipe to extend your wrench and go to town.

Kroil (http://www.kanolabs.com/) is the best, and that's no joke. I've used it for at least twenty years.

Spray it on, let it sit, come back and you'll be able to get your pedal out.

Check NAPA, Auto Zone, Advanced Auto, Parts America, and maybe even Wal-Mart.

Go to Wal-Mart or the nearest auto parts store and get a can of PB Blaster. Spray the stuck part and let it soak overnight... You can tap on it with a little hammer to help losen it. Make sure you are turning the wrench the right direction. One side has right hand thread, the other is left hand thread.

If that doesn't work then torch that baby.

I've had consistent success with PB Blaster and tapping the pedal wrench with a rubber mallet.
