Which would you consider safer to ride Barker Cypress Rd. or North Eldridge Prkwy. between I-10 and 529? Or any alternates for commuting purposes this will be on a cross bike so road conditions not so important.
Edit: more concerned about traffic

Barker Cypress is a BAD road to think about riding. I live at West little York and Barker Cypress and I would never consider riding on BC. It has long stretches of curb and storm drain concrete with no shoulder and fast-moving poorly behaved traffic. Eldridge is somewhat better in that it has some degree of shoulder for most of the way, and ditches to bail out into if you have to. I would be most concerned between 529 and Tanner, as the shoulder is pretty narrow and there are lots of cars coming on and off of Eldridge through there. South of Tanner, the shoulder is wider and there are fewer businesses and side streets, so it would be a reasonably safe ride.
I have been taking barker cypress near 529 to get to my parents but it seems every time I take that way traffic is way to aggresive on barker cypress normally I have no problem taking the lane inner city but yesterday I decided it's just to dangerous. Would Hwy 6 or Fry Rd. be any better? I am comming from montrose area so fry would be a little out of the way but wouldn't mind the extra miles, not really sure how safe hwy 6 would be.
I ride from Barker Cypress @ West Little York to St. Thomas (off of Montrose) all of the time. I usually cruise down Richmond Ave or Briar Forest (AKA San Fliepe) to Eldridge Parkway. Then take Eldridge Parkway down to West Little York, take a left, and ride use some of the roads through various subdivisions to get to Barker Cypress.
Email me where your wanting to go nathanieljung@gmail.com and I'll get you an exact route. I've ridden from Montrose to NW Houston many times.

Nate, did you buy a new bike yet?
I routinely ride along North Eldridge from 529 all the way to Memorial. Not much in the way of a shoulder and in someplaces. But forget Barker Cypress.
Normally I ride in inner city and take the lane, I am curious do you guys take the lane in the burbs and rural area if there is a shoulder?

I got it and wrote you back....I usually take the lane unless traffic is flying past me at 50 mph and I'm holding up traffic. If there is a bike lane and it is in good condition then I'll use it. BTW; Briar Forrest is supper smooth where they have laid down fresh tar.

Dude, you know my number...you forget it after the MS150? Sheesshhh.... No, I haven't actually gotten on it since the MS150. :( I kind of had to pay some unexpected bills and bought new furniture.
