not sure if this is where this belongs, but anyway...

apparently, as I'm riding I set my jaw without knowing it... and after the ride I find that I have limited movement to my jaw, but only one side is the problem.. like it's binding. About this time yesterday I went on an hour ride and I'm still having issues this evening... only 50% of opening, 20% of left, and 100% of right.

Anyone have any insight to this type of thing?

Could be lots of things, position, cumulative posture problems from your desk job, sleeping problems, etc etc etc.

First get an experienced rider to check your position for obvious flaws (by taking a ride with you, not by watching you spin easy on a trainer).

How long has this been going on? Has anything else changed in your life? If you can nail it down, get to a pro - a physical therapist, a physiatrist, a chiro, or an MD if you prefer.

See a dentist and get a radial jaw x-ray. I have TMJ problems and this is what happens to me when I clench my jaw. They want to do surgery and braces on me, but I am trying to change my jaw-clenching habits instead. I have been doing well without any intervention for quite a while, but my orthodontist claims I may have severe problems in my old age. Nevertheless, no guarantee that treatment helps either.

This is the second time it's happened after a ride, it's the second 1hr/+ straight road ride I've taken this year... (it happened the first time too, which was 1 hr 20min on the road, on my mtb) Otherwise it's my riding has been short road rides to mtb trails for an hour to and hour and a half in duration, or 30min-45min neighborhood touring. I used to ride a lot up to 9 years ago and I'm trying to get back into it this year. about 120 miles since early march.

I recall it happening a couple other times before (non-riding related) but I can't remember the circumstances.

I read some stuff about TMJ online but wasn't sure about that because there is no pain involved. I'm due a dental cleaning on the 15th... so I'll ask them about it. hopefully it will be gone by then or it'll be hard to get the cleaning done.

to answer creakyknees I work on cars, my toolbox is my desk.

Try making a conscious effort to move your jaw as you ride if you now know you set it. I'm a bruxer (I clench and grind my teeth at night) so I too have experienced limited/ sore jaws.
