Ms. Clause was nice to me this year! I will be starting the new year on my new Lemond Buenes Aris!!

Since I have fantacies of racing (old fart class) I am interested in a computer that can give me a lot of information. I have a Specialized Speedzone Elite on my current bike and was thinking of getting one for the new bike. Of course, I had to do research and I am now undecided. I like what I have, but the Vetta V100 sounds like a nice unit and of course there is Shimano's Flight Deck to consider.

Does anyone have experience with either the Vetta or the Flight Deck?

My concern with Flight Deck is the "virtual cadence" and the lack of average and max cadence (something I like to know, but am not sure how important it is).

Of course, both units are a lot more than the Speedzone!!

Thanks for your input!! Bill

I have the Vetta RT77 on both my road bike and commuter. Never had any problems.
I've considered changing to the V100 on the road bike to get rid of the wires. Just can't justify getting rid of a working computer to get something nicer.

The Planet Bike 8.0 is the best computer I have seen. I use mine on both my road and mountain bike. You can buy an extra mount for $10. It has been through rain, cold wind and a couple of hard crashes with no damage. It has no buttons the foul up so it is totally water proof. Plus it look pretty cool.

Cateye has the DSX-2/3 that seem quite nice. Not wireless though.

If I understand correctly, some of the higher-end Specialized Turbo models have the coveted (by me, anyway) lap feature, which best I can tell, doesn't exist on any other bike computer anywhere. Except HR monitors with bike computer functionality.

I haven't used one, but probably will be getting one soon.

I picked up a Vetta V100HR with virtual cadence... I can't use it until the spring, but I'll post a review then!

Virtual cadence has an advantage over an actual sensor: if you come off of a long descent you can check your computer to see how fast you'd need to pedal to actually catch your wheel. You can therefore shift to the correct gearing for whatever cadence you want. I don't know how helpful this is, but it's what I've heard from virtual cadence users before.

Bill...watch the "old fart" class. Around here, the old farts are mostly former CAT I and CAT II racers. Since Masters don't divy into classes (other than age, not ability or past results), I know a couple of guys who really got suprised.

Congrats on the new bike and enjoy!!!

I purchased a Vetta V100A wireless with wireless cadence for my new road bike. I have only used it for a few months, but I really like it so far.

My recent experence with Vetta has been negitive. The biggest problem had been wiring coming undone. I'm now using a Specialized Speedzone Comp, which I like. I'm trying to upgrade to the Elite. I've never had a reson to buy a Filghtdeck, as I don't have compatable shifters.

I have used Vetta computers for years - they always work. I have a V100 wireless now and have over 3000 miles on it with no problems.

Hey come on now, I can't very well post a review of the V100HR until I have a bike to use it on. ;) I'm still waiting on my Marinoni to come in, should be in around the 15th of this month.

And before you guys start the "wimp" posts I should mention that there's a foot of snow on the ground right now where I live, so there's no way I'm taking my great brand new bike out on these roads in well below freezing temps. But the day the weather warms up and the snow goes, I'll be working on a review!!! :D
