Fifty Plus (50+) - Don't Look Now But...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

....cyclists are getting more mainstream by the minute. Checking the headlines with the morning coffee, I just saw this:

All those peds on the MUP could be on cycles soon....:roflmao2:
It's good for the bike shops and could buy us some much needed respect on the roads. On the other hand, I've seldom done anything that could be considered mainstream by the overly normal.

I seldom see bike commuters on my route to work but I've seen several the past couple weeks.
This morning it was raining and I passed three:) Of course the price of gas jumped from 3.62 to 3.95 in our area yesterday.
Friday is Bike-to-work and I'm wondering how many we'll see at the annual breakfast for this event?
Over the past few weeks I've found several new bike commuters on my cafe route in the mornings. I'm retired but I love to stop in for breakfast in a cafe about 5 miles from my home. There's a Wal-mart right next door so I do my shopping as well. A couple of them work in that Wal-mart, one in the cafe, and a few others work a couple more miles in other retail establishments. All have seen me on the road while driving past and figured if an "old man" could do it so could they. We all now meet and commute as a group in the morning and we all stop for breakfast in the cafe as well. It's a hoot to walk in together and sit in a space we have taken over as that "breakfast biker gang" the cafe manager uses to refer to our little group. We've had people ask us about bicycle commuting with the normal questions like is it "legal" to ride a bike on the highway, how many miles do you commute, and how did you get started. As fuel prices go up even more I know we will have even more "breakfast biker gang" members.
