Hadn't done Nyack since February (I've been racing every Sunday), and I got a chance to make an appearance yesterday (no fees were involved). Many of the Big Guns were off racing, but the ride was surprisingly fast nonetheless. I spent much of the ride at or near the front, was 2nd out of the dreaded Scratchup Road climb and finished 7th or so over the Hook Mtn. finish. Thought I'd have a bit more snot for that last climb, but yesterday I was at the back of the leading bunch on that climb instead of at the front of the trailing group.
So what do I get from racing, even as pack fodder? The best conditioning I've had in ten years. That's what. I like it.
P.S. All this @ 175 lbs. If I can get down to 168, you're all in Big Trouble.
P.P.S. Well OK, maybe not KP or gsteinb, but still.
When the F are some of you BF Wussies going to show up so we can Crush your Souls? So far I've seen KP a couple of times, but that's about it.

Today's meditation: If you had raced like you meant it on Saturday you'd have gotten dropped on the the hill before Scratchup.

Maybe if you showed a little more appreciation for the peloton dogs dying in the pack they'd be more motivated to work for your Team Leader Ass. So far all I get is 'shhhh!!' when I'm trying to find out how many guys are away on the last lap you friggin pinhead. I'm sorry, the GL Race Radio wasn't working that day (it was an iPod).
I should pull my sponsorship. I'm actually getting pissed on by the amateur bike racers whose entry fees I pay.
ha. as I've said before I'm not the leader of anything.

(don't be fooled, that's a putter, the General heads for the Links after the bike race)
allright Pcad,
I find myself in NYC on this fine saturday with no ride plans for the morrow.
Is there a Nyack ride? can I come? can I meet and drop/be dropped by the old man, the rumor, the skinsuit-owning guy who still thinks masters is called "vets"?
Basically, where does the ride start and when.
Ride leaves Sunday mornings from Nyack Bicycle Outfitters (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=safari&rls=en-us&q=nyack+bicycle+outfitters++nyack%2C+ny&btnG=Search) in Nyack, NY 8AM. 50 mile ride. Ride really departs 8:15-8:20, get there by 8, you can use Jim's bathroom (bike shop owner).
The more the merrier. I generally park at Piermont Bicycle Connection and hook up with the ride about 6-7 miles up the road near the NY/NJ line on Piermont Road.
read: "I'm riding from Piermont, but you should ride from Nyack so we limit seeing each other."

Pcad eschews criteriums.
You know, I would get out there for the Nyack Ride, but there is one little problem. It is a little bit too, how do you say, "in Nyack." That is to say, in the next state over.
That notwithstanding, a group ride that leaves at 8:00 AM on Sunday? That's downright uncivilized. I've got my soul to think of, you know.

I can assure you that you are far more likely to see God at the top of Hook Mtn. on the Nyack Ride than in any church service. Trust Pcad on this.
it's what, 3/4 mile? :rolleyes

It's not the .75 miles of that little climb, it's the 49.25 miles chasing around Cat 2/3 aholes like yourself that precede it. God's always waiting for me a the top, he runs next to me with a plastic pitchfork in his hand. I'm up arguing with you @ 4:48AM when I should be sleeping, I don't know who's a bigger idiot. I'm going back to sleep.
Deal. I'm going to ride the rollers and try and loosen my legs up for later.

Forget it pal, now I'm awake. Good luck in that crit today.
Jim from the Nyack bike shop is a nice guy.
That's all I have to contribute to this thread.
I'd agree, Jim is about the nicest guy in all of bicycle retail. He started that ride 30+ years ago. Now he's 60 and he still comes out and hangs for part of it.
So today's Nyack Ride (4-18) Report: Not that fast in the beginning, but once we got north of Rt. 59 (last 15 miles of the ride) these two NYC Cat 2's From Hell (I don't if they're 2s but they rode like it) go to the front and just drope the hamer in the most distressing manner imaginable. I was in the paceline putting down 250-300+ watts for like 10 miles just to hold the wheel. They continue with this lactic acid injection right to the base of Scratchup Rd. (the little grinding climb before 9W that always sheds half the peloton). After successfully softening up the bunch (I was wondering if I'd have it to even hang on Scratchup after that stretch)then they punched it hard on the Scratchup climb. They took two Nyack Ride regulars with them and got a gap that we weren't going to close down. I was in the next group, but all the horsepower was up the road. Many of the faster Nyack regulars weren't there, had they been that tactic might not have not succeeded. Oh well.
I was utter toast today after riding 110 miles yesterday, let them all go on the climb, but caught a 2nd wind, tempo'd up and passed 3-4 guys before the top of Hook Mtn. Finished about 50-100 meters behind the 2nd group. All things considered, I was happy with how I rode today. But that last hour was a bit of a sufferfest for Pcad.
I friggin love that ride.
