Hi all. I just moved to Dublin a week ago and I'm pretty anxious to get out and hit some nice xc. Any specific trail recommendations for any type of decent xc in Ireland?

I rode 3 years in the "hills" of southwestern Ontario, than spent a year biking in the Canadian Rockies, so I can handle just about any xc. Although I'm sure with the highest hill not being over 1000m things won't be too challenging!

Hi, cmfx.

I started a separate blog recently dedicated to my biking in and around Louth, Ireland. Personally I think it's a beautiful place to cycle. You can cycle up if you want, but on the train they do take bikes (not on the commuter train, though, so do check on www.irishrail.ie first which it is if you're considering taking one). Bikes are unfortunately as a rule not transported by bus, but I've taken my bike on the train a few times and it's been a breeze.

If ever you want to risk coming out here for a day's cycling with me, I'll risk it, though I'm normally a solitary cyclist and am nervous of having to adapt to someone else's abilities re average speeds and daily distances. But I can at least point you in the direction of some routes I've enjoyed.

Drop into cycleways on Parnell St and look for the short gangly English guy (I can't remember his name). He's a really avid mountain biker and will tell you all the trails.

Ballinastoe is good, as are a few places in the Wicklows. Just keep your ears open and you'll find out about stuff, there's even some decent singletrack hidden in Phoenix park and along the Tolka river. Good Luck!
