Ok so I've recently acquired a road bike, and im not a noob rider, I've put on some miles just not on a road bike. So how do I find bike clubs/races/events in my local NY area, I live in sherrill NY, I know theres a bike thing in utica but I just got done with school there and dont want to make the long commute anymore ($) I was hoping there might be something within riding distance. Does anyone know of anything or how I can find out?

Check with your LBS, they should have a few suggestions.
Go with a slow group to start, as you need to get used to riding in a group, hand signals and so forth.
well theres my problem the nearest bike shop is 35-40 miles away :(
It might be that you will have to make the trip.
Check out this website:

scroll down to New York to see if there are any clubs near you. I'm not sure how comprehensive the list is, though.
wow the nearest one is in syracuse thats like farther than utica like a hour or so :( theres no way i can do that
Why not pick up a telephone and call your LBS?
Like I said, the list might not be accurate, or comprehensive.
yea. I have to go down there anyway today, I just bought a used bike went on one 40 mi ride and one toe strap completely fell off and the front derailer is totally just stuck, I was hoping that I wouldn't have to make the drive up there anymore once I finished school, it costs me like 30-40$ a week just to commute up there once a day, oh well I guess one more time.

thanks for the links, is it just me or is biking not as popular as running. There's numerous running events all over the place but for biking theres like only 15 within NY this summer, and none of them are within a 2 hour drive of me lol, unless I go to NYC, Ive never actually been there.
Edit: oh and the bike shop knew about 3 charity rides and thats about it, there more of a "dude lets BMX hardcore" store than a road bike store if you know what i mean.
