My buddy and I are getting ready to ride from St. Augustine to San Fransisco using the Adventure Cycling maps.
We now have maps to do the Southern Tier, connect to the Grand Canyon and then take the Western express to San Fran.
My buddy proposes that instead we start in St. Augustine, cut north on the Underground Railroad to meet up with the Trans Am and take that to San Fran.
Anybody have any opinions?
Thanks

Depends on when you are going and how much time you have. The TransAmerica is a nice ride and if you will be going in the hot part of the year it will be cooler. We had a lot of 100+ days on the TA last year, but it probably would have been 115 or 120 on the Western Express.
The TransAmerica will take you MUCH farther up the coast than SF. The ride down the coast is nice if you have the time though. If time is tight and you have to get to SF you could take the train.

Basically I want to know which is all around "better" for a summer ride, we are actually leaving in 4 days-- The southern tier connecting to the western express,
or, the western express connecting to the transamerica.
Any opinions appreciated.
