Great Lakes - Minneapolis Bike Shops

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi,
I'll be in Minneapolis this July. Looking for a good bike shops. Suggestions?? I ride the road. fyi Looking for clothing ect. Or just a cool place to check out. I was down there last summer; but had no time for looking at bike shops. Did pick up lots of vinyl at the Cheapo Records (on hennepin?) Great city.
Thanks

oh! hey if you asked this before sorry about that, I missed it. I usually head to Penn, I've found the ones in Woodbury and Bloomington have a better selection of clothing than Eagan- I've only been to those two penns. NOW is also pretty decent.
Here's a grand listing of twin cities' LBS's to check out: http://www.biketcbc.org/bikeshops/index.html
I've heard that GearWest is the holy grail. It is however, too far for me to bother traveling. Frankly, I buy a lot of gear online, anyway.
Coming to town to ride? I could direct you to some group rides in the area.
I highly recommend riding south from MPLS along east river parkway starting from the U of M. Some of the best sights of the cities of mpls & st paul & river valley.
Happy travels!

Nice, thanks for the link. Lots of info. I'll be leaving my bike at home for this trip. :( My wife and I will have a great time together. :) Minneapolis is a kick ass city. Every thing you want wile not HUGE like NYC. And wow, the SS/FGs in that city make me lust.

I saw that a few weeks a go. I only get about 4 days holiday a year; so I'm limited to how far I can travel. Hence my attraction to Minneapolis.

whats wrong with the new avatar? ok, maybe this isn't quite right. but i did have to work eventually today, instead of JUST messing on BF.
I really like the Hub Bike Co-op. A bit more personal than Penn, although I shop at both.

hey, i'm hoping to go to minneapolis this summer and see the bike scene there, too. it seems quite alive from everything i've ever found on the internet or heard. i would say to check out the scallywags bike shop. they used to run just a sort of nomadic bike gang, but ended up getting really involved in supporting rwandan coffee farmers (connected to projectrwanda.org) and all the money made in the shop goes directly to the farmers' bikes and support networks. scallywagsbikeshop.com

I also found this place online via Assos site:
World Cycling Productions
2225 University Ave W
St Paul, MN 55114
Seems like a big catalogue place. Any thoughts? Has anyone here visited that place?

Pass it twice a day. HQ to a catalog firm. Great folks. 10% off walk-in.
Granp Performance, St. Pauls old roadie home, is a great shop as well.
Erik's and Penn are decent local chains.
There are many.

There are a lot of good shops in town, but if ya want a to visit a really COOL joint, hit up One on One. Jene-O runs a cool place. Some nice rides and a great coffee shop. He's truly got some soul. Its downtown on washington just north of first avenue.

Yeah, I'd recommend Erik's, Grand Performance and Freewheel. I've had some bad experiences at Penn, however.
