Does anyone know how hard it would be to swap parts from a 2000 JTS to a Surly Crosscheck? Looking at buying the frame but not sure about the compatibility.

With the exception of the front derailleur and possibly the seatpost, you should be fine... The JtS's seat tube diameter is larger, so you'll either need a new FD with a smaller clamp diameter, or shims under the old one to make it fit...
Seatpost might be the same size...probably both 27.2mm, but maybe not...?
Oh...the other thing you should check is the bottom bracket shell width...some are 68mm, others are 73mm.
They both use 27.2mm seatposts. I'm not sure about the FD, but they may be the same size as well.

Surly frame is steel, Kona is AL...not really any way the external diameter of the seat tubes could be the same...
