So what's everyone doing for Memorial Day weekend? My wife is going to Mississippi without me, so I can ride as much as I want!

None of the rides in Indy sound particularly interesting, so I've been thinking about doing 3 centuries in a row. I've also toyed around with the idea of doing each century in a different state. I would have to rent a car, and it's cheaper to not have to rent the car on Monday, so Indiana will have to be the Monday century by default. Besides, that gives me an easy out if I feel like crap after 2 days. What should the other states be? Iowa and Wisconsin? Tennessee and Virginia? Save my money for a bigger trip later this year?

Are there any big rides going on in the area during Memorial Day weekend?

Sounds like an awesome plan. I would pick Wisconsin for sure. Iowa near the IL border is nice from what I have heard. Michigan is always a winner.

Just stay the f out of NE IL and NW IN............ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I'm riding the Bike the Drive event, but definitely a family snoozer. Too bad you can't wait until the next weekend. BFNIC ride in Wisconsin and the Udder Century (admittedly a century in flatland) as a Sat., Sun. double hitter.

C'mon ... Snake Alley Criterium in Burlington, IA.

It's a no brainer. :giver:

If you feel like giving your TT/hill climb skills a test, check out the 10-mile Alp Bl'Huez TT near Madison on the 24th. That last 3 mile climb is the worst I've ever felt on a bike (right down to dry heaving), until I crossed the finish line. I'll be back this year to try to it again:

(here's some video from last year --- I'll be sure to shoot some video on the steeper portions this year: http://s159.photobucket.com/albums/t127/Porkchopwi/Alp%20BlHuez/?action=view&current=c20a1d5b.flv)

Stage race up in Duluth/Superior too (Not gonna make this due to work sked and $3.75 gas since I have two more trips to that part of the state for events in the next 3 weeks)...

Please don't end up like this, Mr IT Band.

:injured:

Bruised Ego > Bruised Body, especially one week before you ride the epic Double or Nothing / Udder Century weekend.

i am prepared to lose.

i am already bruised.

i am aware of more important future battles.

i do this in order to obtain high ranking amongst the tribe of sandbaggers we call the BFNIC. i can not let Psi out sandbag me.

later.

I'm racing in Iowa all weekend, including Snake Alley (a race to say you raced...past tense). That's a fun bike day. You can sit on the Snake and watch people race up it. Then there's the Cobble Climb, which is a blast to watch too.

Might be an organized ride also.

No worries there. I am horrible at sandbagging. I wouldn't even know where to start. I'm not even sure I know the concept of it.

As for bike riding....I have gotten even slower lately. I find my Garmin (which is set at 3mph shutoff) keeps turning off whenever I ride anything larger than a 1% grade. Last week I was passed on my commute by an old lady using a walker.

...but I am sure that for <insert ride name here> I will be tapering, riding my rain bike, using old tires, have stomach virus, etc. I will ride sweep.

Funny you should mention that. I rode the Horsey route back in February. I enjoyed the route, so if anyone else is looking for a good ride I'd recommend that one.

I'm a sucker for novel stimuli, though, so I'll have to find something else.

I'm not into racing. One of my goals is to ride a century in every state. So far I have IN, OH, MI, and KY in the bank. I'm planning on riding across IL sometime before RAIN, so I'm not looking to ride there. Iowa + Wisconsin might be the best bet.

I hope everyone's having a nice, long weekend.

I decided to save some money and stick around in Indiana. I did my first 2 centuries, but I'm not sure about the 3rd. I think my legs have reached a point where they're as tired as they're going to get, but my taint does seem to be getting worse by the day. The real weak point is my mind. I almost wish I had taken a trip, because I'm getting bored with the scenery around here.
