I'm sorry, I just have to vent. I'm just mind-boggled! right now I want to grab society by the throat, give it a good smack across the face and yell "What the F##K are you doing? wake the hell up!".

I find this whole scenario absolutely amazing, and not in a good way.....

It seems that we (I include Aussies here too) have become such mindless consumers that we just can't see the reality of our situation when it's staring us right in the face!

If you lose your job and can't afford your mortgage, how can you afford rent for somewhere to live and rent for somewhere to keep your stuff?... and if you have so much stuff that it sits in a self-store then why the heck keep it?

What the hell are we as a society thinking? Just how bad does it have to get before the western world gets an inkling of a clue?

Am I the only one here frustrated by the collective ignorance that surrounds me?... I'm really hoping that car-free/car-lite folks here can empathize with me, otherwise I'm liable to just give up all hope.

Peak sewage? This is where we drown in our own waste products... you can put Global Warming in that one.

ever look at some of the stuff people are storing? by the third month they are behind in what that stuff is worth vs the storage fees.

When we moved to Costa Rica, it was embarrassing how much stuff we gave away to Goodwill and such. Not that it was in a storage place, but really, it was insane.

And we haven't missed any of it.

It's the hope that things will get better and you'll be able to move back into a larger place again.

Around here is self-storage heaven/hell depending on your outlook... The second hand dealers/thrift shops get a lot of their stock from the past due storage auctions. I have been to a couple but never really saw anything worth bidding on. I have used them in the past for a few months at a time to store stuff during relocations. My general take is that if I have something common that I haven't used in over a year it probably needs to be gotten rid of.
