Just got this email from Bikereg.com, a new challenge ride from the designer of the Horribly Hilly Hundreds..

-----

All Hail THE KING
A new phenomenon of physical and mental fortitude…

On July 19th, 2008, southwestern Wisconsin will surrender its hills to those willing to accept the challenge:
THE INSANE TERRAIN CHALLENGE.

With two AMAZING yet UNDISCOVERED routes, the INSANE TERRAIN CHALLENGE snakes through much of southwestern Wisconsin's most remarkable landscape. Averaging over 103 feet of ascent per mile on the 200K route, and 100 feet of ascent on the 124K loop, this is a ride fashioned not only for endurance athletes, but also for those of us who secretly crave to experience the physical and psychological tests only such an extreme event can provide.

Saturday, July 19th 2008
*6:30 am start
*Rain or Shine
*Blue Mounds, WI

124K * 7,700 feet of climbing
200K * 12,400 feet of climbing

**Fully supported route and food stops
**Finish line party at Blue Mound State Park
**Free Insane Terrain Challenge shirt to participants

Hmmm....not as steep as the Horrible Hilly. Actually about 1/2 as steep. Strange. You would think it would be steeper.

It all depends on who's elevation calculations you use. The HHH website claims 10,700. I'm attempting to map the course to compare using the same scales. I'll post a link when I've got it completed.

cant they come up with their own ideas????

on a side note, a quick search of the index at motionbased.com for HHH rides shows the 200k route with just over 12,000 feet. this is from various rides from 2006 and 2007. whatever that is worth.

later.

They should have picked another day for this ride like the 26th or 27th. The 19th is the same day as The Kicker.

As for the ride itself, It's totally different territory than the HHH with only 3 roads in common. I can't tell what the profile is just yet (bikely is regenerating the elevation graphs), but here's my attempt at a map:

Pfft. That ride is about as original as my humor.

Interesting ride, this Insane Terrain. It takes the southern route out of Blue Mounds. I'll have to look into this one, as I'm volunteering for the HHH and missing the DLD altogether.

I might do this ride. I have the day off. I am curious to see the elevation profile.

The Kicker is now in a whole other class. They are now claiming 16,000 ft. of climing for the 200k route.

Why not just do hill repeats up and down Blue Mounds for that kind of 'fun?'

shaddup you.

So far, I'm planning on doing this ride and it will finally prove I can't climb.

I need lighter, more expensive wheels. :)
