Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

On my new trek 4300 came with those beefy offroad type tires... and while thats dandy and all, I was curious to know, will a more 'street' tire be easier to move, softer ride, more grip on pavement, and faster?

I dont think I will see much 'trail' with this bike, as its the most expensive bike I have ever owned, and plan to take very good care of it. The most I think I'd drag this bike thruogh, is probably grass, maybe a field... nothing too 'major'

So what you think?

Yes, a baldy will be better for the pavement. Why the crap do people buy mountain bikes and ride them on the street? Buy a hybrid, sir...you will smoke the crap outta your MTB buddies that are riding the street withchya!!:thumb:

If you can take your 4300 back and get a hybrid still...I'd do it. They're upright, comfy, and really quick compared to a comparable MTB.

If not, then get some skinny-minny smoothy tires and pump them up to max pressure. You will S-C-R-E-A-M!!!
Might I suggest the Kenda Kwest High Pressure tire:

Yes.

I use Spec'd Rhythm Controls (http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCEqSection.jsp?sid=EquipTires26_2.2)
I would use the Compound Controls but I have occasion to take some alternate routes and they're not always pure street riding.
