So, what would be the most you have spent to do one ride. A one day ride such as a century, not a multi day tour type or 508 types. I'd have to go with a metric century in Casa Grande Az. Just trying to remember why I haven't been done any organized rides lately!:twitchy:
New shorts- $90
Hotel- $150
Gas- 12 hours of driving- $80 (back then:D)
Fee- $70
New tires- $40
Meals- $100
Memories of he ride- priceless:p

i wouldn't use a brand new pair of shorts for a century the same way a marathoner doesn't use a brand new pair of running shoes...
the entry fee is more than a dollar per mile? one or two meals is $100.00? ouch, they make rides expensive out in Casa Grande, Arizona!

For me that would be Everest Challenge. It was a lot... :twitchy:

2) Gas to drive to LA - $30 (?)
3) New jersey $40
4) New fork - $250
5) New front wheel - $130
But that's history; and all is good now. :D

The Lake Pepin 3-Speed Tour, no doubt. It is a 2 day event, but still . . .
Airline tickets for Jackie and myself $620.00
Motel in Minneapolis on Friday 72.00
Motel in Wabasha on Sat. 55.00
Rental Car (KIA Rio) 65.00
Food during the ride and pre/post 120.00
Motel in Minneapolis on Sun. 75.00
Total 1,007.00 or . . . $12.58 per mile
And that's not counting my wool cap, wool pull-over and whatever Jackie bought in clothing to look authentic for this "No Lycra" event.

No entry fee for the ride last year, $25.00 this year!

I wouldn't try a new brand of shorts, but a new pair of a known brand/model is fine, and actually quite nice. There is nothing quite like a new pair of shorts (or bibs).

I'm a cheap ******* so I won't spend 100 bucks to ride my bike these days.
When I was racing MTB, had the final race at the Castiac Lake by 6 flags
$30 campsite
$50 gas round trip
$55 race fee
$30 Camping food
$20 pasta at BJ's after the GF Chino Hill bike ride
____
$185 total.
Course was ONLY 7 mile laps but 1700 ft of climbs PER LAPS 2 laps...raced it on my singlespeed, got a flat on second lap, rode with the flat and still finished 3rd. Got 3rd overall in points for the season.

True, Thanks! I did buy them for the event but tested a week before on a long ride. I'm not crazy!:roflmao2:

it was two 7 mile laps so half your calculation. I did one practice lap the day before so maybe that might count. I still have nightmare of those grades. I swear it was like the chain gang going up, almost everyone was walking these fireroads.

I remember doing that race one year. It was like a chain gang going up. There was a section of singletrack that even if you could have ridden up you really couldn't because everyone else was walking. All you saw was just a line of people walking up the mountain pushing their bikes.
The most expensive ride has to be a 24 hour race. They charge a lot but then again they are going for 24 hours. It was well worth the money every time.

Does the ride to my wedding count?

yah some "hero" in my class thought he could clean the first few switches, He got off on the first one and everyone behind him (pretty much the entire class) had to dismount. I ran around that fukker so he won't block me on the next switchback. I looked back and few guys did too.
Best "hero" of them all was at the Bonelli race. This guy full on 100yard sprint through the grass at the sound of the whistle. When we got across the road and at the base of the 1st lil hill n I could hear him huffin and puffin from like 20ft back LOL. That was last time I saw anyone if my class. I finished 1st at like 45 some minutes, 2-3 came in at 55 mins and "hero" came in at 1h50 some mins:roflmao2: My GF was there taking pics at the start, one of the pics was this gal with a video camera blocking her shot of the starting line, I'm thinking she was part of the "hero's" film crew:roflmao2:

Oh man were you at bonelli I think it was in 2004 and it was like 105+ degrees and everyone on that backside of the hill next to the 10 freeway was dropping like flies and it was like a death march up the hill. I think on that side of the hill next to the freeway someone told me it was like 115 degrees and I saw beginer riders sitting under a tree.
Good times... good times

You lucky *******. I almost quit that ride after the first lap. I remember going up the hill right before you come downhill to the finish and you just see bikes on the side of the dirt road and no people. It was a bike graveyard. To bad that was not my only race in triple digits. 2 years ago at vail lake it was 110 and windy and dusty.

Now that looks like fun.
I guess the most I spent was on our metric from Green River Rd. to NB and back. It was the wife's first time going that distance, so whatever she wanted in NB was hers -- mostly food and beverage:
Wife: Bucket o' fried fish and celebratory Fat Tire: $35 or so.
Me: Pulled Pork Sandwich and celebratory Fat Tire: $15
Us: Three more pints each at the Shorehouse Cafe while the bartender told us the filthiest jokes he could imagine and the local drunks hit on the wife: $40
Then we rode back.

I did a five week bicycle tour in England and Scotland back in 03. New touring bike, touring equipment (panniers), 5 weeks of B&B's, touring clothes (rain gear etc), hostels, food, tires, beer, tubes, sightseeing costs, couple of nights in nice hotels, internet access, more food, more beer, scotch, american movies for when I was homesick. All told, I don't want to add up the costs, at least the airline flights were free...

Tour de Palm Springs has cost some big buck in the past because we stayed two nights at an expensive hotel (about $350 per night), paid for four entry fees (wife and two kids), and ate out every meal at nice restaurants. Cha ching!

Well, lets see
Airlift - Still no bill
XRays, splinting etc - $648
Xray tech services $257
Orthopedist consult $164
Splint $185
3 Casts $475
16 Therapy Visits $548
Picking up girls with a hot pink cast......Priceless.
Without hospital trips,
Tour de Tucson took 3 tanks of gas and hooking up with an ex so I had a place to stay.
