messure the axle with a ruler . my guess would be like a 113 mm should do it.

infact it was a 107
.... i am wondering ... i like this bike a lot .. and would like to upgrade it it has 105 and ultegra now
from 1996 with lots of miles on salty west norwegian roads .. if i buy a new ultegra sl .... does the new BB have to be a 68/107?

yes with your question , but if you are going with new stuff (08) then it will be external cup and bearing units. then the axle would be longer .
