Bicycle Mechanics - Is this a decent pump?

I bought a cheap pump at Pepboys that I had to return after 2 seconds because it was such a POS! Not even sure how much pressure is in my tires now :(

It was on sale at performance for 25 and it works pretty well.

+1 on either of those Topeak pumps (I have the Sport), especially since they both use the "old style" double-sided head. I just think its a little easier to use than the newer one-size-fits-all head on e.g. the JoeBlow Pro.

I have found the "Smarthead" to work well. The gasket is still a little tight and hard to pull off but it is nice to just be able to stick it on either valve type and go. I have not used the "Twinhead" so I can't compare the two as to ease of use.

In any case, any Joe Blow can take either head if you decide you want to change.

I've use this one. Whats to say...it pumps, its cheap, and has lasted many years.

I have the Performance/Hurricane version of the pump forensicchemist (http://www.bikeforums.net/member.php?u=21069) posted. It's the same as a bunch of brands (Giant Control Tower 2 also). Works very well, especially with the new head. Maybe It's just mine, but I've found the pressure meter to be pretty accurate, too. I'm not pumping up road tires, but it gets my hybrid to 80 psi with very little effort.

I have the cheap Nashbar blue one and use it a lot, even on my car tires. No problems.

I have a $10 inflator that plugs into an automobile's cigarette lighter. It does a fine, fine job of pumping up bike tires to well over 100 psi.

I have the Sprint. Worked fine until I was lazy using it and over-pressured a few times to get the presta valve to release instead of purging the valve enough. It started leaking air out the schrader side of the head when I tried to pump up my road bike's tires. I eventually unscrewed the schrader side and plugged it with a dime that I'd filed the edges on. Works fine now as a dedicated presta pump.

Pendergast, I had to do the same thing on a dual-headed Giant Control Tower 2 that my dad owns. (They' since changed the design). I used silicone to plug the leaking and never used Presta side, but, heck, a coin would have been easier and worked better, probably. The silicone gel stuff made a big mess.

I originally plugged it with a piece of tire patch, but that didn't hold for long. Considered using silicone or even epoxy but didn't have the time to wait for it to dry. A dime was almost a perfect fit and worked like a charm--something to keep in mind if someone has a Joe Blow twinhead with that problem.

That's interesting that this happened to you as I found myself stuck the other week with a dual head frame pump (rebadged no-name).

I have not heard of any problems with the Smarthead, it might be the better way to go if the Dual/Twin heads develop this problem over time.
