Commuting - Bike Lockers

Does anyone have any experience with storing their bike in a bike locker while you are at work? Are they more secure? Anyone had a bike stolen from a bike locker? I just rented one today. I am tired of trying to take off all of my accessories when I need to lock it up, so I am hoping that this will be a good solution.

Well, my general problem is that I have a big bike on account of being tall. And my bike locker at work is just barely big enough to fit my bike, if I squeeze it in exactly right.

Don't know how to answer. The bike lockers at work are free. You do have to tilt the bike to get it in. Only things I have noticed to watch for:
1. when back in, if not careful can turn on some tail lights
2. some positions in the sun get very hot, and may lead to premature tire/tube failure.
3. lock choices are slim as the holes are small.


they are great for a place to store all your junk. i wouldn't commute without one, or a room I could pull the bike and junk into.

Curious, what does the rent on a locker cost?

It was $30 for rent from now until November 30th plus a $10 deposit for the key.

I've rented one at the Hamilton, NJ train station for several years, and never had any problems. $7.50 / month. Mine came with a built in lock, and the company that rents them out keeps a copy of the key. They're allowed to inspect the contents and remove anything that isn't bike related, but I don't believe they've ever done so.

If I had one available I definitely would use it, I am trying to convince the company that runs my building to put them in.

I use one. It's great. I can actually fit two bikes in mine (don't ask me how I often end up with two bikes at work). Mine cost $5/month, which is a huge bargain especially during the time of year when I'm working late nights.
