Winter Cycling - Studs to slicks

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This is the worst year ever as it pertains to procrastination. I just switched from studs to my warm season slick tires yesterday! When do you all switch and have you ever let it go this long? I feel like I'm on a new bike. So fast!

I don't actually use studs, so this is one place where people can't say I procrastinate. If I see ice I am actually comfortable riding across it without studs, although that took awhile and won't happen for everyone. At least one person I know asked "What do you do for pea gravel? Would narrow tires help? I keep falling on it."
I do thump into the pavement about once a winter when I hit ice covered with snow and don't know it is there, but it seems a lot less bother than all the trade offs, changing tires, expense, some loss of speed with studs.

Well, I'm still on semi studs, but I'm waiting on some new Summer tires which were supposed to be here last week,
and last week, we had Snow!

I waited until I was sure that there would be no more snow.
I think it was early april when I switched mine.
I didn't care that they were slow. I just wanted to save some wear and get rid of the noise... :D
This year I got a second wheelset. I switched with conditions.
