Cyclocross - Tire Pressure?

Hi All

I have a new cross bike. I have Bontrager Race Lite wheels with Continental Double Fighter tires.

What tire pressure would you reccomend?

I just checked now, and my guage is reading 60psi back, and 70psi front. This seems low, however I have a cheap $10.00 canadian tire guage, so that could be the problem. Or, is this the expected pressure (although I expected closer to 110/120 psi).

Also - What do peopel think of this tire? Im mostly road, sprinkled with some offroad at times. Nothing too agressive.

Update: I looked closely at the tire (was dirty, missed thi sbefore) - it says 70PSI - so I guess the guage is correct and ive answered my own question :P - my back tire is low, but not too bad. Still posting to see if anyone has any comments :)

i put between 70 and 80 psi for my cross tires... and when i swap on the road tires, i think i do 100psi

Is this for racing? Because then I'd say cut that about in half, then you're good.For general trail riding on somewhat rocky trails I run maybe 45-50 in back and 35 in front.

After searching aroudn more, and reading sheldons article on tire pressure, Ive learned alot more. Ill do some test rides tongiht at various pressures to see what feels best. Im looking for comfort over performance, so im thinking 5-10% below the listed will be good.

If you ride mostly on road, and sometimes on offroad, I'd recommend getting proper road tyres and ditching the knobbies. Panaracer Pasela tyres should be up to light off road stuff.. gravel roads, trails etc. You'll enjoy the road part A LOT more :)

Yea, im probably going to do that acorn - was looking for a pair of durable road tires, 28", pref white - anyone know of anything similar? :P

Well, I have had good luck with Schwalbe Marathons and Kenda Eurotreks. The Marathons are really hard to fit though, because they have stiff sidewalls. The Gran Bois and Rivendell tyres are from the same school as the Pasela, but more money.
