Hello fellows,
I recently took this Huret FD off the now stripped Trek 728. I've always taken it for granted that it likely is the match for the original Duopar rear, but I'd rather know for sure:

P.S.: Is there any other period derailer that can handle a triple with a 28-42-50 range without scraping the lower edge of the derailer in the small-small combo? I know this Huret will do it, but I've always found the cage too soft and spongy for my liking.

Your front derailleur predates my brochure, which is a Sachs-Huret. Don't quote me on this, but I believe Sachs bought out Huret in 1987? The front derailleur pictured with the Duopar rear in my brochure doesn't look anything like your pic. That thick overhang of metal off the front almost makes me think 70's.
As far as capacity, the Duopar is listed as doing up to 34. None of the other sport/racing derailleurs listed were that high. Sorry I can't be more help - Huret holds a special palce in my heart.

According to this page (http://homepage3.nifty.com/passhunter/hunter/huret/huret.htm) it is a match for the Duopar.

that agrees with what I've put into velobase.com as well.

This appears to be a long cage Huret Success front derailleur; I got one with my Duopar in 1978. If you can find a Simplex from the same period, these had a deeper inner cage plate and might work better, but I haven't used one so am basing this on hearsay. Having said that, I used to use 52x40x26 with the Success with no problems. You shouldn't have a problem with the chain rubbing in small x small as it shouldn't be used anyway! BTW, you do have the (partially separate) inside front piece of the cage don't you? (It's impossible to see it in the photo...)

Inside front piece - you have me stumped here. What piece would that be?

I believe the "hood" on the front part of the cage was added in the later 1970s possibly a CPSC thing.
