I currently ride an 07 Nova with 50/34 compact crank up front and a 12-25 10sp cassette up back. I want to swap out of the compact crank and replace it with a triple. I'm seriously considering Sugino XD600 but getting the chainrings changed to 50/36/26. If this is still not low enough, my rear derailleur can take a 12/27 giving me a granny of 26-27. Not perfect for a full on tourer but enough for my light touring.

My questions are:

1. Is there a problem using the XD600 with a 10sp chain? (the most important question)
2. Any suggestions for a BB?
3. Any suggestions for an online bike shop that will swap out the standard 46t largest chainring on the XD600 for a 50t?
4. Any other cranks I should look at to get a 50/36/26 triple to work with a 10sp chain?

I know I will probably have to go and have a chat with my LBS but any information I can get before fronting up will be useful.

Cheers,

Dave.

You're talking about taking that sugino triple and increasing the big ring to a 50? You can put a 24 on that for a granny, if it's the crankset I'm thinking of (that I have, and that's what I did, w/ the 24 I mean not the 50).

What about a stock Shimano 48-36-26 crank ? I'm not sure you will miss only two teeth and much easier to come by.

Fair point. Have you got a link to one that will take a 10sp chain?
