Bicycle Mechanics - Nexus 8 drop bar conversion

I already have a Nexus 8 bike (Jamis Commuter) that I'd like to convert to drop bars, similar to the Bianchi San Jose8 offered by Harris Cyclery.

Question: What are my options for mounting the shifter, is it just the HubUb adapter? I'm told I'll be limited to only 1 or 2 options?

•You can mount the extender on the end of the drop bars like the San Jos8.

• You can add a mini-handlebar (second stem and short section of handlebar) under your "real" handlebars.

• I believe someone is working on a drop bar compatable shifter but I don't think it is for sale yet. As BF member operator said, "If the $200 walmart bikes can have gripshifters next to the stem on road drops, you can too."

I use the Hubub on mine. I think it's a little spendy (probably because they can't sell a million of them), but I have to say that the placement is really convenient.

One poster said he hacksawed a little bit of mountain handlebar then epoxied it inside his drop bars, this is what I plan to do as I find the Hubbub inordinately expensive.

Also, just an FYI in case anyone was in a similar predicament as me, I noticed Harris finally has pre-built 26" wheels for the Nexus 8 hubs, for about $300, less than if you ordered the parts yourself and had the LBS build them up, in many cases.

Jay at Jtek was quoted as saying he would have one of his shiftmates ready in a couple of weeks. This was a couple of months ago. Might try to give him a ring. Maybe they are ready to sell. Otherwise the hubbub is probably the way to go.
