ODOT reported today that because of deep snowpack and road construction projects, McKenzie Pass road will not be open to bikes or cars until September. Snow removal has started, but is slow going because the snow level is low this year and the snow depth is much higher than normal with up to 30 feet of snow at higher elevations on the road.

As soon as the snow is cleared, work will begin on two bridges on the west side of the pass.

Oops...guess I was wrong....I was estimating the 4th of July, but then I didn't know about any bridge construction.

I was going to suggest you do SAG duty for your Memorial Day (or whenever) ride so if anybody crapped out, you could ferry them over the pass.

Oh well. Labor Day maybe??

It won't happen by Labor Day, probably mid-September. Actually that will be a good time, fall color, after tourist season, and I may even be back on my bike by then.

I'll let you know when to come over Skip.

This photo is near the second road gate, that is really low for this time of year, an incredible amount of snow that low on the road.
