Headlight mount for homemade light?

On my last bike, I was able to reuse a metal reflector bracket for mounting one of those 12V spotlights from Home Depot. On my new bike I'm trying to make a similar setup, only better; but have to figure out how to mount the light. I want it to be quick-remove, like with wingnuts on the bolts; and it has to work with 31.8mm handlebars. I did pick up some conduit clamps, but I'm not liking how those look. Any suggestions for what I could use?

The conduit clamps work well but, yes they look awful. I'm keen to try these:

Mount the headlamp solid to one handle and just squeeze on and off. I have some and they are strong.

What does your light look like? If you can post an image of your light and where you want to mount it, it would be easier to help find a clamp or bracket which might work for you.

But I have to ask you why it needs to be quick release? After all, isn't one of the advantages of an inexensive DYI light that you don't have to worry so much about it? I had a bit of aluminum bar stock in the shed, so I fabricated a pretty stout, permanent mount for my DIY light. I lock the bike up frequently in Los Angeles... and frankly, I'd be surprised if someone actually took the time to mess with the light. If I'm that unlucky, I'm probably walking out to find my ride gone altogether.

I'm not worried about it being stolen, as much as I'd like to just be able to remove it w/o pulling out a toolbox. I could ride a different bike at night, but I'd like to ride my one good bike regardless of ambient light. Basically, I'm looking to ride my bike for an hour at night, and then on the weekends do 3-4 hour rides during the day. I figure, strip off any extra weight that I don't want to deal with on long rides.

I trimmed the spike off, but kept the swivel, and mounted it to an old reflector bracket. I'm tempted to do the same, but it's a different bike and the same bracket won't work (old bike: one piece stem, bracket behind handlebar clamp bolt; new bike: pop-top stem).

I've thought about going the Fennix route (or some other LED light); but on the flats I cruise at 18mph, and have hit upwards of 30 going down hills. My night time rides will be sorta training rides--go out, blow off some stress, ride at 90%, that sort of thing--so dim lights are not an option. I want lots of light, but I don't want to spend $400 to get there. I figure, an extra pound or two (or 7, in the case of my SLA battery) won't hurt for training rides, if anything that'll help me not outrun my lights. :)
