Fifty Plus (50+) - Too much sometimes is just too much.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I had a really hard 8 days last week. Did a solo 200k quite fast on saturday and a 200k groupride on sunday. Did a fast 90k groupride on tuesday and intervals on thursday. On saturday I did a 300k brevet with a small group of slightly better riders. We had an onbike average a bit over 30k an hour and I unwisely pulled quite a lot. Next day my throat is sore and I am tired of biking. Good thing is I got to run slow with the wife on monday instead of cycling. Ran another slow workout today and hope to be fit for tomorrows intervals with my bike club.It is a bit sad that I never seem to learn that I have to alternate slow and fast, hard and easy.

Lets see, that's a minimum of 498 miles in 8 days (not counting the intervals). My take: Too.....much....time....on ... the....bike!:speedy:

Even the pros take rest days. Your post title says it all. BTW, those are impressive miles.

Those are some great rides and training sequences. :thumb: I assume you do this but in case you do not, I suggest taking your morning resting heart rate. If it is not returning to normal each morning, then you may be training too long or at too high an intensity. Another HR test is to take the resting HR in the morning lying down and then standing. Note the difference. It should be about the same each day. Rising resting heart rate is indicative of over training. You do not want to train or ride any harder than from which you can recover. Events and races are exceptions.:)

My Swedish American wife told me about those Norwegians. It was something about ten thousand brave, noble and civilized Swedes running through the weeds chased by a one bloodthirsty Norwegian on a bicycle.

Sounds like a great week to me! Not that recovery isn't important, but still . . . if you can do all that and still make your feet go in little circles, it's all good!

If you want to do all that riding and actually get somewhere, come try the RAAM (Race Across America) ride (http://www.raceacrossamerica.org/subwebraam/default.php?N_webcat_id=1&PHPSESSID=deb4a238cec6a0d326ded6ac14267b8d).

It starts June 7 -11. So there's just time for you to get to Oceanside, CA.
