Hi All;
New to the forum. I ordered a bike from this web site. I ordered it the first of the month, and they pulled the money from my paypal account the same day. They supply a tracking number, but no updates on the shipping as of yet. There is also no phone number anyplace on their web site. Is anyone here familiar with them.
Thanks;
Don

Some shipping companies are pretty lax in keeping the tracking info up-to-date. I suggest sending an email to bikesdirect inquiring about the status. If you don't get any remedy that way, you can use this forums PM (private message) system to send a note to BikesDirect_com (a forum user by the name of Mike).
Mike's not on here everyday, but he does come on a couple of times a week usually.
Did you order something that wasn't in stock or is Prepay? Seems like they print the shipping label with your order and then slap it on the bike when it arrives in the warehouse.

Thanks guys. When I placed the order there was no mention of delivery time or the need to prepay. The ordering system seemed to gladly take my money. My biggest concern is that they took my money two weeks ago, issued a tracking number immediately, and now there is no updated status from UPS or bikesdirect. If they frequent this forum, I am less worried. I'll just give it another day or two. Thank you again very much.

I heard from them that it would be early June. That's now.. Still no bike. I'm unhappy they billed my visa on day one, but its taken them a month to ship the bike. I was never told this and there has been zero indication of a delivery date.

Which is it?
If you paid via paypal, the merchant gets the money immediately as if it's a bank transfer, even if you fund it with a credit card.
If you pay with a credit card, the merchant should only bill it when the item is shipped.
I suspect you did the former, essentially giving the merchant the payment as opposed to them taking it.

No, I've asked about that through bikesdirect. If you place an order (credit card also) they bill it right away. I don't like that, so I will be waiting until the bike is in stock. Regnihe, they are legit, but that is their policy. Also, they only deal with email. Good luck, I'm sure it will come to you eventually.
I can confirm that they charge credit cards the same day (even if the item isnt in stock apparently).
Their website dose not have automatic confirmation on orders, so I emailed them the day after I placed my order to get some confirmation. I received four seperate emails back with order confirmation and shipping/tracking info. One of the emails with tracking info showed that the delivery due date was about a week from the day that I placed the order.
The UPS tracking info never updated (obviously because it was never shipped) and I received an email seven days later, on the day that it was scheduled for delivery, saying that they were issuing me a refund because my bike was not in stock, apologies for the inconvenience, etc.
I wont be ordering from them again.

From my experience, everyone charges your card when you order something. If you don't pay for an item, no one will send you anything.

Odd, my experience has been that it's very rare for a shop to charge your card before the item ships.
I've asked Mike to look into this and respond.

Items that were never in stock to begin with?
It also apparently took them a full week to figure that out. Still waiting on the refund...
I received my refund today.

Correct.
There are a bunch of federal laws around this. As a consumer, you should expect that the retailer is not charging your card until they are ready to ship the product.
This is a good reason to use your credit card. If you ever can't get through to the merchant, just call your credit card and dispute the payment. That will get the merchant's attention if your emails don't.

When I ordered my bike from bikesdirect, the money came out of my paypal immediately, and I quickly recieved an email confirming the payment. I thought it was taking kinda long to get a tracking number, so I emailed them and recieved a reply within an hour.. Everything went pretty smooth for me *shrug*

what ever happened to this?
It would be nice to get an official response to the issue i had post above with Bikesdirect. I'm doing a fine job of not trolling any of Mike's posts in the SSFG forum, and leaving my complaints in the proper place.
I never would have placed an order from BD if it wasnt for this forum's advertising. Is it asking too much to have Mike respond to my complaint posted in the feedback forum?

FWIW... The bike showed up the first week of June, as advertised. My only complaint is I wish they would have told me the delivery date when I ordered the bike.

i've emailed bikesdirect and have always received a response in a timely manner. i was then told that they have been on backorder on several of their bikes and that they should have their shipments shortly. my bike is not expected to ship out until july 10th the earliest.(from a typed and mailed response from their CEO shortly after i had already heard a response via email.)
kind of a bummer i have to wait a month and some change after i had already paid in full for my bike. my bike was promised when purchased to arrive by the end of the month. but i was then told by mail that they wouldn't receive their shipment and have it out until july 10th the earliest. and to make up for it they did give me a flip out toolset. wish they had offered some money back instead =).
:thumbup: for responding to my questions and concerns.
:thumbdown: to pushing back dates =s
i ordered the mercier if anyone was wondering

Well, I'm glad you had a (finally!) good experience with bikesdirect.com. They lost my business in 2004, when they ignored my repeated e-mails for help/advice/anything on the Motobecane I'd bought from them.
If you can't even respond to me, even just to say "sorry you had a problem, but....", then you are not someone who will see my money twice.
