It's a joking name... err a valuable brand the El Jamoquio came up with... for a 1-minute interval that starts with a 100% sprint, all out, then you take every single pedal stroke with as much force as you can put into it. It helps if you have a decent hill to fight. Your power will start our extremely high, then fade, and somewhat stabilize -- but you ride yourself into a pile of crap. If there's an explosive, psychotic looking interval, it's this one. Anyone on nearby sidewalks or in cars will think you've lost your mind.
They really hurt. Good for building anaerobic work capacity. Compared to a sustained effort attempt, your mean maximal 1-minute power will likely be much higher with a WRI™. There is some debate as to whether or not they create any better stimulus than a consistent effort, but I figure they hurt more, so I do them.
WRI™ stands for waterrockets interval :o
check into the hotel early, eat, drink, and compare note on what might have been.

Are you perchance referring to the Fort Worth Wednesday nighter... cancelled becuase of non-existent rain and bad weather?
Last year the Plano Tuesday nighters were cancelled like that for several weeks in a row. I'd pedal over to the course, $10 in pocket, ready to race, and only a couple other dudes there who apparently didn't check the website either. Suckage.
Some promoters need to re-acquaint themselves with the section of their race flyer where it says "Rain or Shine"
Waterrockets - I like those WRI's, good name for what I've been doing for years and a fun workout. (assuming your idea of "fun" = intervals till you puke)
To the OP, I can usually do a harder interval workout, solo, than a typical weeknight crit. Work on whatever you feel your weak point to be.

that sounds fun, I'll have to try it after the cross timbers classic
yep, I'm a bigger fan of the fort worth crit since it's about the same amount of car time as plano (if 75 is backed up) and I'm not getting gapped in corners (plus the competition is less stiff)
