Foo - Fellow Club Member hit by van while riding!

Jim Kelly, an avid cyclist and one helluva nice guy, got hit by a van the other night while out riding. All of Jim's ribs are broken. He has a bruised heart as well as spine. Presently he has tubes going into his side apparently to inflate his lungs. Jim also suffered a bad concussion. He will be laid up for quite a while. Jim is a member of my cycling club the Rockland Bicycle Club.

I'll always send out positive vibes for a fellow cyclist. It saddens me every time I hear this kind of news. I t could happen to any of us. Glad it wasn't worse though.

Jim's wife posted the following this evening:

"Just to update you all: Jim sends his thanks for all or your concern and support. He really loves the Get Well Bear! He is grateful to you who have visited and to those who have sent their regards.

The doctors decided to leave the chest tubes in a lttle longer and he has developed a pneumonia on the left side. Jim remains in good spirits and today for the first time they sat him up in a chair. That was a painful and frightening experience for Jim and left him pretty exhausted. But he is very proud of the fact that he got up.

Jim will probably be spending the next several days in the ICU and then be moved to a regular hospital room. When he is discharged, maybe in a week or two, it will be to Helen Hayes"
