A friend recommended me to read it. Did you enjoy it?

Yes! I read it back when it was just one book called "Magician" and it blew me away. In the Introduction section in certain editions of the book, Feist is really hard on himself, saying he did a terrible job of writing it because it was his first book, but I actually think it's his best work besides the Tal Hawkins series that he did a few years ago. Feist is known for thoroughly researching aspects of daily life during the middle ages and then incorporating that detail into his books, and he digs deeper into the complex politics than most other authors do.

Oh, and if you like Magician and end up wanting to read the Midkemia books, which Feist wrote in series (for example, the Serpentwar Saga, the Conclave of Shadows, etc.) I highly recommend you read them in chronological order. Don't be tempted to skip forward because you get so much out of all the twists and you don't want to ruin the suspense by going forward and then going back. Some of the books are better than others, but for the most part they're all good. The only one I didn't like was Krondor the Betrayal.

Ironically I just found him recently. I am surprised I never heard of him before. I would definitely recommend it and be sure to read the 4 trilogies in order.

oh I see rotten said that. It is really important as the character development by this most recent series is over a 120years told...

a really good series, and a very easy read.

Is the Magician not the first in the order?

PS: Rotten, your name and avatar crack me up!

Read Apprentice. I sort of started backwards, but not out of order. Fiest and Wurst have a series that starts with the book 'Daughter of Empire'. 'Daughter of Empire' tells a story from the other side of the Rift War. Sort of like stories from Japan and the U.S. during WW II. But not FDR and The Emperor. Very interesting how things look different from the other side.

In any case reading Apprentice is a good risk. If you like it there is lots more, different, but of a similar tone and quality.

Yep, Magician is the very first, with Apprentice the first "half" and Master the second. I never could figure out why they broke up the original book into separate novels.

Thanks, I've never been a big Ghouliani fan :p

I actually just started reading this series recently. I finished Apprentice and Master a while back and just read Silverthorn last week. I've got to say they're great. Not quite as good as epic series like LOTR, WOT, or ASOIAF, though. Definitely worth the read if you like high fantasy.
