This one called to me - I don't have a green bike ... yet. I pick her up on Saturday.

As Mr. Burns would say, "Excellent." I saw a number of them in the UK. Great bikes.

Great bike! My first bike as an "adult" was a 71 Galaxy I bought new in Monterey, CA for $122. Rode it lots there, and then in Maryland, and even brought it along to Germany in 73/74. While there I changed the cranks to Stronglight cotterless, and the RD to a SunTour V-Gt. Moved most of the components to a 56 Dawes frame (531DB), and then somewhere along the line the Galaxy frame got lost in a move or something (maybe my wife took it to the dump!)

Yours looks to be in good shape. Enjoy it.

Pete

Dawes, along with Raleigh- are one of the Icons in British Biking. Pity they no longer are but My LBS is a Dawes dealer. Over here they still have a great following but not a bike that I reckoned for the type of riding I do. But get on any of the Audax rides and the predominant make is Dawes.

Now on the nasty side---- couple of weeks ago and the shop were supplying a new bike to a customer under warranty. The frame top tube had rusted through but the warranty seemed a bit exceptional to me. His model was no longer made but they had supplied the equivalent bike- not just frame- to his original purchase. Whether it was a mistake or not but they had also upgraded the model. His old bike was Sora 24speed- but the new one was 20 speed-Ultegra. Not a bad upgrade for a bike that was 10 years old and well and truly out of warranty.

The Dawes looks great. Some of us around here appreciate well-crafted old lugged steel frames. Tomorrow is Bike-to-Work Day, and I am once again issuing my "3 digit combined age of bike and rider" challenge. :thumb:

I got her home, cleaned her, and rode her to work one rainy day. I've since installed Suntour Barcons and sold her off to a coworker. He rides her almost daily.
