Bicycle Mechanics - Not For Shopowners- I Love My Lbs!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I heard a clunking noise when I put the bike on the trainer. Changed out spindles, pedals, etc., and then took her to to the hospital. A little history, a new bb(warranty) and chain and cassette on 5/2003 for a mountain tour. Since I put 3000 miles on the bike in 2002-2003 without needing new stuff, I didn't realize that different type of mileage does different things to a chain. I did a lot of climbing this year, so...... I needed a new cassette, middle chain ring, chain, bottom bracket cleaned and new spindle. ALL OF THIS FOR ONLY $29.00 + the new chain ring which is on order. I usually tip (this time $25 which is way less than the price of labor) thanks to a thread in BF about taking care of your mechanics. So, it is now the mileage, it is the type of mileage. This year Santa will be putting a Park Tool to measure chain stretch in my stocking.

Great story! It's so cool when you can find the LBS that can take care of your money without gouging you at the same time. My current LBS does just that, while Performance, where I used to go, would charge me tons for something as trivial as changing a freakin' inner tube.

Thanks I almost forgot about my LBS.
I need to pick them up a case of their favorite brew. They always remember that when I'm a little short on cash for a repair and say hey just pay the next time you are here. A GREAT BUNCH OF FOLKS. Cheers to my LBS.
