Lights that dont turn on in your backpack.

I'm looking for LED, removable & affordable front and back lights that don't turn on so easily like mine do while they're jostling around in my bag. Mine just have a yellow button you can press and the batteries run down too quickly when they're left on un-noticed in my backpack. What do you like?

If this were the only criteria, Blackburn's Mars 3.0 is probably your best bet. The button/switch is flush and needs to be pushed to the recessed position to toggle through the modes.

Planet Bike's Superflash may work out too (overall probably the best option). You push the center-bottom of the unit pretty hard to use it, it has no external switch and I don't notice any movement. Hard for me to explain.

The Mars 3.0 goes through batteries fairly quickly, especially compared to the Superflash. The Mars strobes much more frequently than the SF and has more LEDs. In my opinion the Mars is brighter from a distance and I like the flash pattern better, they are both fine lights though. I don't use anymore, and can't fully recommend, the Mars anymore as I broke 3 mounting clips in a fairly short amount of time from it bouncing out of its mounting bracket. I keep a Superflash primarily as my backup light in my bag and have yet to have it activate unintentionally.


Neither is 100% sure to stay off, but these are the best bets I know of.

Price may come into play but a light with an external rechargable battery pack makes it simple...just unplug it and it can't go on.

PB Superflash shouldn't turn on by itself. Cateye Single Shot headlight button has to be held down to turn on - can't imagine it turning on itself.

Buy yourself one of those cheap neoprene pouches they sell for cameras and mp3 players. Stash the lights in there when not in use.

Or depending on the switch design and the size of the light, you can slip a piece of an old inner tube over the switch to keep it from being pressed accidentally. Works for one of mine, not for the other.
