i can't spell D
but im talking about derailer

anyway, my tiagra triple in the front survived my tour but got damaged while my bike was sitting inside my car doing nothing. goes to show bikes are meant to be ridden and not carried about.

anyway, the spring on the derailluer is broken. the derailluer is riveted together so drilling out the rivet and putting it together again is an option but only if i have the right rivets. what other solutions are there? a really really strong spring that pulls the derailluer back towards the granny?

so, to recap, spring broken, so i can upshift but not downshift. any options here? repair? and, the tiagra front d isn't manufactured any more is it? can't find it anywhere.

The Tiagra front deraillers still exist. Shimano has them on the products list on their website (http://bike.shimano.com/publish/content/global_cycle/en/us/index/products/road/tiagra.html). You can find blueprints with part numbers if you know which model you have exactly.

If I were you, I'd post this question in the mechanics forum as you might be missing out on some good advice from non-touring bike MacGuyvers.

Nashbar.com has several front dérailleurs for $20 or less that would work well for you (Sora, Tiagra, LX, etc.). I think the amount of time and effort you put into replacing the spring would be more costly and hassle than just buying and installing a new front dérailleur.
