Hey gang. Before the calendars get too filled up, I thought I would throw out a proposal for the much-anticipated NorCal Tandem Rally and Wheelsuckers ride :giver::giver::giver:.

My proposal is for Sunday, July 6th. Proposed route for the Wild Ride would be the Bucolic Backroads ride that we did in March. Approx. 70 miles and 4500 ft of climbing - apropos for tandems and wheelsuckers alike. We'd start in Half Moon Bay, go straight down Hwy1 for 25 miles to Gazos Creek. Then we wind inland and ride along some coastal backroads, including a climb up Haskins Hill. This will most likely be a very fast, ride-your-legs off group. Here's the Bikely link: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Bucolic-Backroads-Tour

For mellower riders, I've mapped out a Mild Ride here: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/147455. This will be 40 miles with 1500 ft of climbing. It's very scenic. Designed for fun and social riding.

Meeting Point: Half Moon Bay Fire Station, corner of Main St. and Higgins Canyon Rd., Half Moon Bay
Start Time: 9:15am

If the group is up for it, we could end up at my house for a BBQ and beer. I also harbor thoughts about inviting the musicians in our midst to bring their instruments and we could do some jammin'. I know, I know, Paula's violin and Ramon's rockin' drums may not go well together, but hey, we'd be breaking new ground!!!

Who'd be up for this? 'Cmon tandem teams - raise your hands...

Non-tandemer checking in (Calling myself a wheelsucker would imply that I can keep up, and I'm not quite ready to make that assumption. ;)). Even without a (working) Bikely map, I can say that I'm most likely in.

Will this be taking the place of the Coastal Century this year, or will that be later?

She tries very hard not to call off work. So Sunday would be best.

We are in, as long as it's a Sunday and before July 10th (we're going to Europe then).

OK, it's Sunday, July 6th. I'll change the original post. Let's see what kind of response we get.

I think that smooth and sassy will still be out since smooth is having surgery. They might be ready by then, not sure. They will be piloting a new CF/Ti tandem once they are back in action. That much I know ;)

I know there are a few other teams out there... Hermes/velodiva, superunl, etc...

I know there are plenty of wheelsuckers :p

I'm on a 6-day tour the preceding week. However, if I'm back by Saturday, it's a strong possibility we'll make it. :D

We might ask someone to lead a moderate ride in order to accommodate everyone.

Knowing some of the folks, I suspect the wheelsucking will be done at an exuberant pace.

I'll join in from Gazos Creek to San Gregorio. The stretch from La Honda to San Gregorio should be great for sucking wheel.

Okay, Red Rider and I are in. How many tandems does that make? More details please. Pete said it would be fun so he better not be lyinghttp://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w76/cgallagh/action-smiley-047.gif

We need more details please. Must make arrangements for the pups etc.

I can do that - but Jonathan and the rest of the moderate group would still be waiting for me ........ :)

My stoker got a job and it's on weekends. I guess when you work in the healthcare industry, you gotta pay your dues before you can pick your shift :(
So, no go for SU team on this but I'd be wheelsucking for sure :)

I was thinking 9:30 start time. It's a little later than normal, but gives time for people to drive to HMB.

What do you guys think?

Hey, it's still 2 months away, perhaps she can switch shifts with someone?

Or, perhaps you can find another stoker?

We need more tandems!!

I'd prefer not earlier than 9 am: driving from South San Jose to HMB is a bit lengthy.

Pete, i'm replying to your ? from SC/Alan's thread so it won't clutter a nice thread about Nicholas :)

Jack, just out of curiosity what are the max adjustments for the stoker? Seat/BB , Bar to saddle tip?
The stoker size of my tandem is small and I do not know the max height for the BB to saddle to Hbar. Red Rider used to be the stoker of this nice machine. pic of the tandem (http://www.bikeforums.net/showpost.php?p=5000799&postcount=10)
Right now, it's in lowest setup which is for a 5'1" stoker.
