This is what they looked like by the time I got to work (although I didn't notice until it was time to leave). *sigh* If you have a set of these, I suggest you check to make sure those bolts are nice and tight from time to time.

I've got a thread going about trying to service my Quattros. Those aluminum bolts are crap. I had been in touch with Crank Bros about getting some instructions to service them myself, and they offered to warranty them for me instead. They do have outstanding customer service. Suggest you e-mail them regarding the problem, and I bet they will offer a replacement.

Thanks, qinsoakedboy! I sent them an email last night. I'll let you know what they say.

I also went out pedaling on my wife's bike to see if I could find the pieces, but no luck. Baseline Road looks a little too clean; I suspect a street sweeper came by and took my pedal parts. :P

I might try a store here in Ottawa called "Ottawa Fastener Supply", because they have just about every style of nut and bolt made by mankind. The inner shield is just decorative, really, but the outer shield is all packed full of grease so I suspect I don't want to bike around without it securely fastened to the pedal.

It also holds the small bearing cassette in place on the end of the spindle.

I don't have Quattros but I've had a couple of Candies that have had the end caps work themselves loose for whatever reason.

Crank Bros has been really good on customer service, they've sent me new caps and pitched in some bearings also. They also RMA'd a pedal with a broken hoop, no questions asked.

I've been less than impressed with their pumps, though. Great toy for my 2 year old. Terrible pump.

Crankbrothers offered to RMA them for me. I brought them back to where I bought them, though, and they're going to take care of warantying them for me (that way I don't have to pay the postage to Crankbrothers, which would not be insignificant since I'm in Canada).
