Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Most bike shops will not be too anxious to put a bike together you did not buy from them. If they are willing to do it, it won't be cheap. The best bet is to wait after the holidays, but before spring hits. This is after the holiday rush, but before the spring rush, they might be more willing during this time, maybe Ferbraury is your best bet.
I think any bike shop that sells similar bikes to yours will have able mechanics because a shop owner is not going to let any joe smo work on bikes that are thousands of dollars. Also, you want them to fit you on the bike after it is assembled. This is very important becuase they can fine tune your fit perfectly.
Another option is to assemble the bike yourself, then take it to a shop for a "tune up" and bike fitting. They will check over the bike and make and adjustments as necessary to make sure your ride is operating properly and fit you on the bike.
Best of luck.

Thanks! I have decent relationships with both shops. Buy gear at each. So it won't be a problem to get them to do the work. I was kind of curious about anyone's own experience with shops here.
You are totally right about the timing. I'll make sure that I take advantage of the mid winter lull.
This is going to be one nice bike. I bought my last one at one of the shops, but this time I hand picked each and every part.
I'm pretty excited about the whole thing! Want to do it right.
Milburn is nice. I work at Kopps Cycles in Princeton, NJ. The guy here (owner) has over 30 years of experience and I would definitley recomend himf or building a bike.
Do no tknow if it will help but check out this site - <www.promechanics.com>
It is ran by my friend Chris Clinton and it lists certified USCF mechanics by category and state.
I have had my Seven built up by a Michael Hoek of Town Cycle in West Milford. He has also built up two wheels for me (Bontrager Maverics) that I use to commute on. Excellent service and friendly to deal with, wheels were good and have held up well to commuting so far. Some shops are almost all geared towards MTBing, young owner, young mechanics, but Town Cycle is a small shop but seems to have a wide range of tastes, he even sometimes seems to have a Rans recombant hanging from the ceiling there.
Doesn't have a website but has a phone number which you can PM me if interested..
