Any info on the course? There flyer says it's a new course from last year. (Or did I just copy that from some other race?)

Flyer does say that, but since this is first time I will be doing this race I can't comment on the course. From google maps street view doesn't look all that bad.
In. The course was horrible last year, worst one I have ever done. Would not have come back if they hadn't changed it.
I'm in, Cat 5.
If you are Cat 5, register now...last I checked there were three spaces left.
I am in for the 4's....
sould be good...they changed the course to an L that is supposedly pancake flat.
Just looked at the new course a little closer. Looks like the same as last year, except: instead of going down the alley, they go past it and right turn down Del Prad...a wider street with good pavement. I parked on this last year. Not exactly flat, but somewhat.
Not sure if I'll do or not. I have a target ride the following weekend (100 miles) and was going to do a century (8k of climbing) on Saturday. Although good training, and the purse for Cat 4 is excellent, I'm not sure if my legs would be up for a crit the next day. (Read Vireo's experience for why.)

Hopefully you're right. Flat, wide criteriums are boring.
Hi,
I'll be there... I think. :)
Masters 50+ and maybe 40+.
I don't like the idea of the 'Open' Cat 5 for my first race... I've heard some higher cat guys like to swoop these events for wins. My first will be a 4/5 closed race.

'open' just means open to all ages as opposed to races that have age as a limiting factor like masters or juniors races. racers are not allowed to race categories other than specified on their license so you won't get any cat3s or such in your race. and it won't make a difference for your first race anyways.

Not friends, other forums... And it looks as though there is going to be a good crit a little closer to home. There's an Ontario Crit the same day.

Hello Tha_Help,
zzzwillzzz is correct. You've heard or read wrong or misunderstood what's on other forums. The only people that can "swoop" into a Cat 5 race are elite athletes from other sports. A racer that is a higher cat cannot race in a Cat 5 / Public race. Of course racing with public racers might be even scarier than a field of Cat 5 but probably only marginally.
OK, so I've got noob question...
What is Cat5/public? I know what Cat 5 is, but what does the public part mean? Does it mean you don't need a license?
thanks,
Chris

Correct, you can get a one day license and race without getting a USCF or CBR license.
