I need US$1000+ within the next 12 months. Any Ideas?
Yes I know we all need money, but i'm only 13, well... nearling 14, and I need money for a better bike. The Acera and Aftermarket components on my budget Merida arn't going to well, and not to mention the weight...
So, any Ideas? I've already thought of ebay, but dont know what really sells...

I wouldn't even know. $1000 US is like $1500 AUS, and to earn that kind of money in NSW... at your age... head to the nearest KFC, Mc Donalds, etc. and start saving up now. They are about the only folks I know offhand that hire so young. Other than that, maybe cut grass or something? Do a paper route?

If all else fails, try and see if you can get a good bike cheaper on ebay or something.

Good luck!

FWIW, you must be a) 18 and b) have a credit card to use e-bay. Also, at least around here, you need to be 16 to work at most non-farm jobs. Things might be different ther, so ask somebody who knows.

In Australia, they tend to hire pretty young, especially since at 16, you can move out of your house and live on your own. Check and see what the age is for hire- I'm thinking 14? I can't quite remember.

As far as ebay, you DON'T have to be 18 if mum and/or dad do the ordering for you. Try to be a little creative as far as how to get a bike used. I would think if your parents saw how industrious you were about getting your bike with your own money, they'd be inclined on helping you get around some of the age-related problems. You never know- perhaps they'll give extra chores for money around the house. Hint around for Christmas that you'd rather receive cash because you're saving for that new bike. See if there are other relatives that would be willing to hire you around their house for some odd jobs. If you live in an apartment complex, see if the manager there needs some odd jobs or errands run. For your birthday, let all your relatives and your friends and family know you're saving up for that bike. Every little bit helps. And hust because someone is young, doesn't mean they have to be encumbered by all the usual regulations to get what you want. You just have to get a little creative, that's all.

Go for it!

If applicable:

Mow lawns, rake leaves, clean gutters, paint garages, wash windows, salvage scrap, paper route, take out trash, walk pets, house sit, sell road side produce, and have your folks help you open a savings account so they see you are serious. Or, you can just wrestle crocks (hehehe, American humur).

Sure, none of that stuff is fun, but that is why I would be willling to pay a trusty young man to do this stuff for me. At your age you are going to have to make money the old fashioned way.

Good luck and hope this helps,

Ehenz took the words right out of my mouth.

And remember, it is not called work because it is fun. Then it would be called recreation.

If there are any building sites near you go and see if the builders will allow you to clean up after the work crews leave for the day. This is always something neglected by construction workers.

Deliver papers. Or even ask local merchants if they would allow you to do courier work for them.

All I can recommend is going out with a resume to every place you think would be bearable to work at. This summer it was especially bad for people under 18 since there were so many 18+ year olds available for work. But now that most of them have left for college work isn’t too hard to find, especially with the holiday season coming up. It may take 5 applications, or it might take 50, but if you look hard enough and present yourself as a diligent worker there will surely be someplace hiring.

Your name implies that you live in town. Too bad fram jobs are usually avaliable or are there some farms you can get to? I had a job once younger than you cleaning up a comerical beach and one working in a lady's garden. Look around you'll find something.
