I love bicycling and I love LV!

I'm planning another trip to the Entertainment Capital of the World (tm) and this time would like to try to get in some folding bicycle riding. I'll be arriving by plane and would like to bring along the smallest folder possible.

I've looked at the options and think an A-Bike fits the bill. The only problem is that A-Bikes seem to be sold out (according to their website). Evidently, they have an upgraded model that will be released in the Summer of 2008. I guess my best bet is a second hand unit from eekBay (evil imho) or Craigslist (yeah!). We'll see.

Anyways, the tourists on the Strip won't know what hit them! I'll be sure to bring along my video cam to document all the raunchy details.

BTW, here's a great website about the A-Bike:

I have always regarded the A-bike as a bit of a joke, but Paul Stobbs brought one on the Velovision trip to Spezi in Germany. He joined us on the 'Origami Ride' and after being told to go to the front of the riders to 'set the pace' (as they didn't want to get to the restaurant too early) Paul set off at a cracking pace, even fairly steep hills and rough tracks did not slow him down! Everyone was gobsmacked! LOL!
I had tried it out before this ride and was not too keen. But, the day after the ride, I tried it 'in anger' and zoomed around the show site. It couldn't hold a candle to the Strida 5 though (well, unless Paul is the rider! LOL!)

There do seem to be quite a few on the likes of ebay. Hope you get sorted and it brings you luck!

You'll be able to join the 'A-Team' perhaps! :thumb:

Yes, I'm rather anxious to be part of the "A-Team!"

Of course, I am well aware of all the compromises inherent in the A-Bike design, but I can live with them. Plus, the novelty aspect of the small fold and tiny wheels will be a great conversation starter in Las Vegas.

Sounds good.

In case you're not happy with A-bike availability the Carryme from Pacific Cycles is a close second for the smallest folder and people say it's much more rideable (albeit much more expensive too):

I love bicycling and I love LV!

Spent a week there in March - Bicycling and Las Vegas do NOT go to together.

On the strip there are just too many people, lots of broken-up sidewalk and street pavement (due to several mega construction projects) and vehicle traffic is heavy. Only ones riding bikes on the strip are low-end workers on Mtn Bikes.

Not a bike-friendly environment, IMO.

I was there in March too. Was only there for a few days.

I arrived on a Friday and as I was driving the rental car down the Strip, I noticed all these bicyclists among the stop and go gridlock. I asked some of the riders what's up and they say it was "Bike Night." (?)

I went home a googled "bike night" for las vegas but couldn't find anything. It was definitely an event though, seeing as how many bicyclists there were. I wonder if it's related to the self organizing Critical Mass.

The A-Bike should do fine on the Strip because it's silly/incognito enough that the cops may allow me to ride it on the sidewalks. But then again, what's a LV trip without being arrested once. Haha. Just kidding.

I looked at the Carryme but it is too big and heavy for my needs. It looks to be a much better performing bicycle for sure. I'm thinking with the A-Bike, when I'm not riding I can slip it into the rucksack and sling it on my back. The Carryme is a tad to big for that.

Sounds good.
