Hey,
I had recently gotten an old bridgestone frame on craigslist. It came up pretty cheap and thought I'd build it up on my own. This would be my first 'decent' bike.. I'm coming from a Fuji Track.

I plan to ride the frame around town and do some longer distances, but I don't see myself going to the track or anything anytime soon. I'm having a hard decision what kind of parts to get though..

Should I get parts that are from the time period of the frame? Or newer parts? The thing about older parts is that, I'm not sure if it'll hold up? And if it doesn't it may be super hard to replace/repair. I know I will baby the bike a lot, but I want to try my best not to. My other option I was thinking about was just getting newer parts that had come out more recently.. but I'm not sure.

What do you guys think?

P.S. I'll get pictures as soon as the frame comess.

There is something to be said for vintage parts, but you're right on the mark about availability. I suggest you get exactly whatever parts appeal you you. Remember...it's really all about the ride. Best wishes, too.
