does anyone know the seatpost diameter for a 1985 Panasonic Team bike? the seatpost has scratches over the number and my crummy calipers say maybe 26.6 or 26.8? my LBS was too busy to help me. thanks to everyone who posted the model year info.

Tange Champion 2 frame and fork
chromed Tange short horizontal dropouts
Tange Levin headset
Sugino ALP cranks
LaPrade seatpost

it has TEAM on the toptube and "handmade" underneath.

That would be a 1985. Check the number on the bottom of your head tube?

Oh, and the Team was below the DX-4000 even though it had the "Team" label. Decent frame but they got cheapish parts back in the day.

This one will soon be mine... a clone of my first road bike back in '85

Also found this one which is for sale... 225ish.

what does the tubing decal say? I can tell it is a tange decal but not sure what the specific model is. Sorry I am not a guru but if it is in fact Tange Prestige you'd have one hot ride. Either way you have one nice ride. You are likely on no less than double butted chromoly.

You might be on the reynolds 531/631 equivalent. Others will chime in soon. The decal will indicate the general quality of the frame.

The Team had Tange 2. DX-4000 (depending upon year) was usually Tange 1. DX-5000 was Tange Prestige. Most of the higher level Team model bikes used Columbus tubing, generally SL.

here's the number: 5B09582 you think that means 1982 or still a 1985

tube decal says Tange 2 which i thought might mean Tange Champion 2?

ZeRinger, let me know what seatpost size your bike ends up having - mine will probably be the same.

Feb. of '85 production date. First number is year, second letter corresponds to month. A= Jan / B = Feb etc.

Yeah, it surely is not above the dx5000. Also, dx5000's were built with prestige as well as "1"... depending on rider weight. My dx5000 is Tange 1, which is good because I weigh 200lbs. The max weight of prestige is 150. It's true that one can safely surpass the limit by some extent, but by how much? 25% is a big number, and frankly, a chance I don't want to take for the benefit of saving a couple of ounces. Regardless, the value of a bike builder is in the way he builds his frames, not necessarily the material he uses.

Any pics of your '87 DX-5000? I never saw them in the Panasonic Owner Roll Call thread... post them over there if ya like.

You must've missed my pic. It's included in there. Although as of this moment, it looks drastically different than that picture. I currently have it set up with a bunch of DA7700 components, DT shifters, and Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheels.

Over the next few weeks, I will be stripping the frame and deciding whether to sned it in for a full chrome job or painting it a nice color while leaving the chrome chain stay exposed. Then it will be a choice between a classic 6 spd cog in the back with DT shifters, or a full DA7700 gruppo with STI. Not sure right now.

I get it for you in a few days. The two Teams I found aren't here in town but I should be back over to get one in a couple days.
