Mountain Biking - Pics of ride and final carnage of this storm.

Yesterday was tough, today was almost impossible. Total Accumulation 27", had to go through ski trails sine it was a path parts where they didn't go, I had to walk. Wanted to keep momentum up, so did not take too many pictures but the ones I did take came out nice shows the effects this snow had.

1)On the way to the one trail head, got the idea on how the ride was going to be like.

2)Another View.

3)At the trail head I get flung over the bars due to the deep snow. Here's a view once I got it out of that patch. Bike was standing on it's own even on an area where they plowed yesterday.

4)Took this as soon as I was done with the trail.

Final pic happens to be a favorite of mine, took it at a very interesting angle, and yes, there is a hub in that snow.

How and how long for do you clean your bike after the ride?

Do you find winter riding more/same/less fun than summer riding?

Ok, depends on how much snow, it can take up to an hour, but can get done usually in 30 minutes. Have done it faster. What I use is an old towell for cleaning the bike off.

Doesn't the snow get into these awkward places that can screw up the bike (inside derailleurs, inside chain, etc ..)

For that I use an old camelback cleaner I have, you know, the brush that gets into the tube or Q-tips.

This is why I live and ride in SoCal.....

What type of camera did you take those pics with? (tech-specs) and everything?...very cool.

*THE BEST* cleaning solution for a winter ride? An Air-Compressor with a Blow-Gun attachment. All's you have to do is blow the snow off before it all melts, and it gets it out of every place imaginable.... (of course you dont put direct pressure on hubs, and such).

If you want the melted stuff blown into the seals and bearings. A towel and q-tips may be slower, but it's also easier on the moving parts.

Yeah, that's a great way to blast all the grease out of your bearings!! As long as you're careful I guess it'd be fine, but I'd rather not risk it.
