Looks like a cool bike and the price is right. What do you know? I am an aggresive XC rider from NM. We are going to upstate NY for a week and with the price to bring a bike it is cheaper to find something that will work and just leave it there, will pay for itself in a trip or two plus I get to ride something different.
What do you know about these bikes. Anyone ever ridden one. I know it is no longer a race rig, but will it be fun to cruise on single track and beat on in the neighborhood?
Any opinions would help. (Well, most opinions would help.) I am thinking of buying this bike, it is only a couple of hundred dollars and seems to have XT components.
Thanks for helping. Greg
The component group is sort of a moot point b/c anything back then (including XTR) can't compare to today's technology. I owned a 1998 Super-V 900comp and liked it. It's not terribly efficient b/c it is a single pivot bike that bobs due to lack of platform. It's not unbearable, just doesn't compare to what you can buy today.
It's a fairly heavy bike. Mine was set up with a DD60, XT components, and XT / x517 wheelset. It still weighed at least 28lbs.
For cruising singletrack...it's probably an alright rig. When you say "the price is right" I hope you mean $400 or less b/c I DEFINATELY don't feel that it's worth any more than that, K? K!
You could be facing an entire drive train replacement b/c it probably hasn't been done. I can almost bet that the headshok hasn't been serviced either.
The main thing that I would like to say in the Super-V's defense is that it's fairly tough for XC. I took mine off of plenty of "4-foot to flat" drops and never once worried about frame damage. So it's prob. okay for your style of "aggressive XC" riding. Just don't get hosed on the price. It IS an old bike.

Yeah, the guy wanted 350 for it and it was a medium, I thought it was too pricey and ebay says so as well. We all know how over inflated ebay can be. Oh well I shall keep looking. Cant go a week without riding and really hate to give southwest airlines 150 bucks to treat my bike like crap.

I think you made the right call. $350 for that bike is more than I would pay.
