Foo - Roadmaster saves the day...

I had some surgery Tuesday and while still under the influence of anesthesia I bought a car. I paid $600 for a 91 Beretta with some minor problems. One of them is the front brakes. Since i used to be a certified to repair brakes in the state of Michigan I thought no big deal. But since since I was still a bit out of it there are a lot of things I didn't look at on the car.

So, I fixed a few things and it came time to do the brakes. Some idiot over torqued the lug nuts and I could not get them off. I tried countless lug wrenches and penetrating sprays. Finally, an idea struck me. What almost always bails me out of any bad situation? A BIKE!!! :love:

That is honestly the only valid use of a Roadmaster that I've ever seen.

A customer left one here last week after purchasing a Specialized. We left it out in front of the shop in the hopes that someone would take it. Last night someone did. I hope they got their flat tire changed. ;)

Congrats on the Beretta. I've heard good things on how long those vehicles last (especially being a domestic car).

My brother had a blue '91 GT and he loved it. My sister bought a '94 Z26 back in '96. I fell in love with that car then. She promised it to me when she graduated college. no real problems with hers, but I took care of it for her better than if it was my own. She had 176k miles on it when she got hit by a guy in a minivan doing 45. I attatched a tow rope to it and a tree and with a few good yanks, 1 new shock and some welding on the exhaust it was back on the road. A little crooked, but it did ok. I drove that for a little while but went back to my Mazda that was newer and in better shape.

Too bad I junked hers 3 months ago. If I would have known my car was gonna crap out I would have hung on to it. The one good tail light on that one was on the same side as my broken one

My '91 is a little beat up, but doesn't look too bad. It's got 126k miles on it. The biggest problem is all the rust underneath and a leaky trans line. Unfortunatly, that tends to be common on the Berettas

As far as the bike goes, it provided the much needed leverage. It's been hanging in the garage for 8 years since my brother crashed it into a tree and bent the fork. I tore it down planning to do something with it and never did

They are very weak though. It had a coaster brake and they got twisted doing a sideways skid on gravel. Road it anway until my brother crashed it.

I've never heard of a Roadmaster bike until today (when I think Roadmaster, I think of the last of the line V8 Buicks which were awesome cars... but usually the people who drove them never got them above school zone speed.)

I hit the reviews about this type of bike... and they were scathing. One review basically read, "This is a great bike to instill the hatred of bicycling in general in children for generations to come."

it seems the cheater bar might end up being more reliable transportation. Guess who's Beretta spent the night in a parking lot and got towed home this morning leaving a trail of transmission fluid til the last of it drained out....
Tuesday I'll repair the line and see if I killed the trans. One more reason that's the only car I've had with an automatic since I was 16. I might end up going back to wiring diagrams and trying to revive the Mazda sooner than I thought

I finally got under the Beretta today and replaced the transmission lines. it seems it's not the first leak it's had. There were 3 horrible repairs in one and 2 in the other. I replaced both from trans to radiator. Now it drives like the fluid never pissed out. :D

And, to make things a little sweeter, an attractive woman in my class gave me a sticker for it!! :love:

For those who don't know, a Roadmaster is a cheapo bicycle shaped toy found in x-mart stores. Here's a pic of mine:

I got it for $55.95. I put 500Mi on it. Stock tires died at 250Mi. Stock pedals died at 100Mi. Stock brake pads fell off at 150Mi. The crank got bent at 215Mi. Oh, and did I mention these bikes come with both wheels out of true as default?

So, I approve the OP's use of his Roadmaster. It is indeed a proper use for the thing.

spoke too soon....Turns out there's a problem with the Torque converter clutch solenoid. so I have a car that looks decent that drives fine for about 7 miles, then the torque converter locks up. Let it sit for a few hours and I can go another 7. At least I only taped the sticker on!
