It seems and I am thinking more of the Dahons that the prices have gone up and not only new but used also.

1) The value of the Dollar has been going down relative to most other currencies,

2) Used prices usually reflect what's going on with a similar new item, since they are lower priced substitutes.

3) There also appears to be increased interest and demand for all types of bikes given the price of gasoline.

Added:

4) International demand for resources & raw materials.

If the bike is made overseas, some of the price increase will be from increased shipping costs.

I work for a metal company doing metal enclosures, steel prices are constantly rising, seems to be that china market is absorbing world wide production of steel, so steel prices going up make everything made with steel also going up or components replaced for cheapers one.

Dahon is constantly raising prices in order to introduce new technology otherwise they would have to drop the price. In some cases, you'll see the prices drop but in general, new bikes are constantly being introduced with better specs. Brompton even introduced new models with better and ligher parts so the price reflects the higher quality. However, the Sterling is almost double of the dollar!
