Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Here is the promised photos taken on Thursday 15 May 2008 in honor of Bike-To-Work Day:

From left to right:

1. Handicapped section: When I have a choice in the matter of where to place the bike, and if it not too crowded, I like to place it here where the seats fold up to fit the wheelchairs in. Another advantage is I can exit the front door.

2. The El Monte Busway Station: At the crack of dawn this is the way it looks. The station sits on a man-made hilly knoll where the buses go in a circle, stopping at marked points and picking up/discharging passengers.

3. Busway Station Another View: Here is a bus picking up a load of people. Look at the front of the bus and you will see the rack already with a bike on it.

4. Crowded Everywhere: In spite of the continually more crowded public transit, the freeways are still jammed. I took this photo standing up with my bike at my feet.

5. Brompton Tucked Away: The best bike for this job is the folding bike. And the Brompton is the best at this of all. This was taken at an odd little space between the exit door and the passenger seats. It was a space with about 10-15 inches wide-just enough for all three of my bikes.

6. Dentist Office Visit: I do take my bike everywhere with me-if needed. I wanted to pay a bill for my mother so I stopped by that day and paid it. I took this photo to show that if I need to, I really can take it with me!

Sweet! Nice pics. I was at El Monte Station that morning too. Too bad we didn't run into each other. Did you get the freebie bag? They had nice berry-flavored lipbalm courtesy of Foothill Transit :thumb:

Thank you for the kind compliment of my photos. I am sorry I missed you. I was there when the security guard opened up the doors at 7:00 am. I did get the lip balm plus some interesting little poppy seeds ready to geminate in the form of the little cut out of a bus. My sister absolutely is looking foward to planting them and caring for the flowers.

Good pictures. El Monte never looked so nice.

.....and, that is quite a seat - possibly best described as a "decorator" seat. Makes it easy to pick out your bike in a pile of pink Bromptons!

I was there around 8. Darn, I knew I should've woken up earlier. Freebies were great! I gave the poppy seeds to my mum, as she's slowly filling our new garden with flowers. I also love the Metro blinky--great for attaching to bags, helmets, clothing, etc.

I did see three other people with folders though--a guy with a Montague, another with an unknown Chinese brand, and the dude with the Hon folder I talked to before. It was great to see fellow foldies out and about!

FF do you find you need to tilt your Brompton when its folded to pull along on trolley wheels. I find the ftont wheel tyre touches the ground on mine when folded and locked. Is that normal?

My own Brompton did not come with fenders/mudguards or a rear rack, so I am already have missed out on some of the supporting wheels that Bromptons generally come with. I do have the large wheels which are a part of the frame like the other Bromptons. I did tried it out once or twice, but I did not care to tilt it since I had to leave the stem/handlebars up in the unfolded position. I prefer to use a luggage cart normally used for luggage at train stations or airports with the Brompton on it completely folded up. Or I carry the completely folded Brompton as a luggage parcel completely covered and try not to advertise the bike when I am out and about. To each his/her own I guess when it comes to personal preferences.

By the way, I found the almost folded Brompton when I did wheel it about best if I pushed it ahead of me rather than pull it behind. I was more aware of keeping the front wheels completely off the ground by tilting the bike up more. My little Dahon Piccolo is more suited for this type of non-luggage cart type of transport. I generally use my Piccolo for this method of moving it about.
