Newbie with a question about front derailleur installation and adjustment. Old bike with Shimano Golden Arrow components, friction shifters. Hopefully that provides necessary details.

When I try shifting to the largest chainring, the front derailleur springs back to the smallest chainring as soon as I let go of the shifter. I can't find anything about this anywhere so I wouldn't be too surprised if it is really simple. Personally I think I need to tighten the cable or route it differently. Any suggestions?

On the shifter (top middle) itself there should be a screw or another something {i have seen some with a D-ring** to tighten the friction which holds the shifter in place once you move it to the position you want. Can't get it too tight or you can not shift but too loose and you already have seen what happens.

AHA! That did it. Thanks a million! Onward with the repair...

Oh, and could you post some photos of the bike in the Classic & Vintage forum? We love Golden Arrow stuff over there :D .
