My condolences. That's gotta suck. I know when I went down on my motorcycle a couple of years ago I busted up a bunch of stuff - and I wound up selling the motorcycle eventually.

Heal up and I hope the healing goes well for you.

1. Wounds heal.
2. Chicks dig scars.
3. America has the best doctor to dare devil ratio in the world.

In all seriousness, it sucks to break your wrist. Get well soon!

im healing up pretty well, on tues i will see the specialist, it looks like i will have to wear a cast for about 9 weeks, i will continue my exercise by walking and a stationary bike. sorry for the sloppy typing, but i can only use my left hand.

how did it hapen? well, i was on my way back from a 25 miles roundtrip, arouns 7 miles from my home, i was going pretty fast with my brother, my front gear slipped an i lost control.. next thing i knew i was on the floor, the first thing i checked was the bike frame lol, the bike s fine other than a slight bend on the front wheel and my left shifter is toast.. where can i get a shifter that is better than the one that is attached to the handle bars, i rather have the ones that are like levers instead the one that is like bonded to the handle bar.

thanks for all the well wishes, !!!

I suspect the reason you broke your wrist is because to tried to extend your arm to protect your head. It's a natural reaction, by the way. I banged up my shoulder pretty bad, but tucked in my arm to prevent a break in the wrist or arm. No matter what, if you crash, you're likely to get banged up....that's a given, but there are ways to minimize the injuries. ;)

That said, I'm glad you weren't hurt as badly as you could have been. We're both lucky not to have left any teeth on the pavement.

It sucks to get hurt, it really sucks to do it early in the season, and lose a whole summer of riding. One thing that is critical, is to listen to your doctors, and find a good physical therapist to work on it when the cast comes off, expect that if your in a cast, for 9 weeks, that it will take the PT about twice that to get it usable again. I was lucky in some ways, I did myself in in October as the season was ending (broke my left humerus (funny bone) there is nothing humorous about a broken humerus at work), and my elbow was doing fairly well by the time this season started (if I had my way, the Ti would be under the saddle instead of in the elbow, but not my choice). If the docs say to take time off work, then get it in writing, and hope you have a good short term disability plan for off duty injuries and illnesses. Another thing, is if you need to submit notes and that, keep copies of everything. You will probably get some good drugs, so sleep lots, heal well, and we will see you right as rain for the 2009 season.

BTW Keep us all up to date as to what is happening, we'll be prayin' for ya!

When I did a header a couple of years back, I instinctively put my hands out in front of me. I ended up splitting my chin and couldn't use my hands for a few days.

My surgery is scheduled for next wednesday. Good news: I should be able to ride again in about 8-9 weeks, maybe even sooner. I am so freaking happy. They will do a plate and 2 screws.

Best sport in the world to teach falling is snowboarding. After learning to board, I instinctively tuck and roll every time I go over the bars.

Tucking is a good part of the reason I don't have any broken bones. You're absolutely right here. ;)

Actually, it might hurt less if I actually broke something. :p

I've heard also good for learning falling are the martial arts, actually it's not usually the fall that hurts, it's the landing....:bike2:

I've heard also good for learning falling are the martial arts...I am proof, and have witnesses.

The most difficult part is learning not to thrust out your hands.

I learned in Systema; other arts teach other ways. I disagree with the slapping technique used in Judo and Jiu Jitsu, especially on the pavement. But tucking and rolling always works.

Learn how to fall, then practice how to fall, and you'll be fine... next time.

In the mean, get well soon.
